Substantial revival in Polish tourism

Experts from Polish Chamber of Tourism indicate increased tourism rates both in Polish mountains and at the seaside. The boom in domestic tourism is to be reflected in the GDP figures for the third quarter. Tourism in Pieniny mountain range truly thrives.

The increase in the number of tourists is reported to be as high as 30 000, while comparing year to year the increase of the number of tourists is estimated at around 15 percent. An interesting case seems to be the gorge of Dunajec – one of the biggest attractions in Lesser Poland. In the entire last year’s season, which lasts from 1 April to November, around 250 thousand people took raft trips down the Dunajec river, and this year the number may rise to 300 thousand, which would mean an increase of around 20 percent.

Augmented tourism rates are visible in the area of gastronomy, services, as well as transport. A large number of tourist towns in Poland are being truly flooded. A great example of this are Podhale, Bukowina, Białka Tatrzańska or Zakopane, where finding a lodging or hotel stay on the long August weekend was virtually impossible.

Theoretically, Polish tourist resorts are prepared, in terms of infrastructure, to take in such large numbers of tourists, yet holiday relax is accompanied by waiting lines. Experts emphasize that Polish tourist towns are well prepared to take in a big number of tourists both in summer and in winter. They have a large number of accommodation facilities of various standard.

A larger than usual number of holidaymakers in Poland does not cause any tourist not to be serviced. World Youth Days that this year took place in Poland did not remain out of impact on the increased interest in the mountains of Lesser Poland. Numerous big tourist groups who decided to come to Poland for WYD also visited Pieniny mountain range or Wieliczka.

Still, tourist rates noticeably bigger than in the previous year were also recorded by the Baltic. The estimates available today indicate an increase of as much as 20 percent. Although for the final summary the data from the second half of August, where a big fall of the number of tourists is recorded, will be key, this year prognoses are much more promising for this period as well.

Interestingly, the interest in spending holiday months by Polish seaside is greater than in the previous year, despite the fact that last year’s summer was definitely hotter and more attractive from the point of view of weather conditions. The weather appears not to be the deciding factor when choosing a summer holiday destination.

Poland has to offer enough to attract more and more tourists year after year. Seaside towns officials are also not afraid their accommodation base proves to be insufficient. It is worth noting that in the Pomeranian voivodship alone around ten hotel places pops up annually. What is more, uncatalogued accommodations are continuously appearing which definitely fill up the market gap.
