The big investment plans include one billion PLN – that is the amount that Poczta Polska (Polish Post), a Polish national postal operator, plans to spend on the creation of a new logistics center near the city of Łódź. The investment plans also include three new mail sorting facilities and 54 new trains. The news was announced in a special press conference attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Construction Andrzej Adamczyk.

Polish Post is even considering creating its own fleet of airplanes for transporting mail cargo, possibly with the participation of an outside partner. New software systems and mail sorting equipment are also on the wish list of the postal operator.

The creation of the central logistics hub is to be closely linked to another big investment plans: the construction of the Central Communication Port which is to be the seat of the biggest Polish airport as well as an important communication node for rail transport. Polish Post will closely observe the progress of the government project and will gladly cooperate with the state officials. In the next two years, the Polish company is planning to invest 900 million PLN.

Those impressive investment plans are to come to life due to the expected development of the e-commerce market in Poland. Online shopping in Poland is continually gaining in popularity. Polish Post and other mail delivery companies benefit from this trend, as parcels with bought merchandise need to be delivered to the customer. Clients expect delivery services to be fast and stress-free. The president of the mail operator said they expect their revenue for 2017 to reach 6 billion PLN.

According to the recent data published by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS), consumer spending in Poland is experiencing a period of rapid growth. Poles are buying more and more due to low unemployment and rising salaries. The size of the e-commerce market in Poland is estimated at 40 billion PLN.
