Donald Trump visits Warsaw
The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, arrived at the Warsaw Airport last Wednesday together with his wife Melania. The American couple were accompanied by a delegation of 20+ people, including their daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kirchner as well as American Secretaries of the Treasury and Commerce. The President decided to visit Poland a day ahead of a G20 meeting in Hamburg. Donald Trump had a meeting with the President of Poland, participated in a Three Seas Initiative summit and delivered a speech to the inhabitants of Warsaw.
During their one-on-one talk at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the two Presidents discussed the issues of national security and the energy sector. Officials hope to forge closer cooperation with American gas suppliers and increase the country’s energy independence from Russia. Poland also wants to become an important gas transmission country.
Witold Właszczykowski, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, noted that the visit is an indication of strong transatlantic ties between Poland and the USA. He also remarked that American administration sees potential in the CEE region. The goal of Polish administration is to increase American investments in the country. Polish government spokesperson Rafał Bochenek said the visit of the American president is a great chance for the Polish economy and entrepreneurs. Surely, it puts Poland in the spotlight.
During the Trump’s stay in Poland, officials announced that American government had greenlighted sale of Patriot missiles to Poland. They will be adapted to suit the needs of Poles. The USA and Poland are working on a joint missile defence system.
During his speech, Donald Trump called Poland a great friend of the USA and a true ally and partner and being here is an honour for him. America loves Poland and America loves Poles – he said.
