Miele will open a factory in Poland

Miele, a German manufacturer of domestic appliances has announced it plans to build a new manufacturing plant in Poland. The factory will be situated in a special economic zone in Ksawerów commune near Łódź. Companies that want to invest in special economic zones need to obtain a special licence first. Miele has just been granted such licence and thus got a green light for starting the endeavour.

The main purpose of the factory will be manufacturing of washing machines. Launch of its operations is planned for the first half of 2020. German manufacturer is expected to hire as much as 350 staff members, which is certainly good news for the inhabitants of the region. Construction works are to begin in April next year. Currently, the investment is in the early phase, as company representatives are currently selecting and buying the parcel of land where the factory walls will rise. Erecting the plant will cost approximately 200 million PLN, i.e. 50 million EUR.

The factory will produce thousands of washing machines a year. Most of them will leave Poland and be exported to Germany and other countries. Miele brand, synonymous with high-end domestic and commercial equipment, is present in 47 countries all around the globe. It started operations over 100 years ago, in 1899. In the business year 2016/2017 the company recorded sales in the amount of 3.93 million euro.

Recently, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and of Development, Mateusz Morawiecki, stated Poland is becoming a European leader in manufacturing of white goods. In the country there are already thousands of people employed in the industry. “We are becoming a significant development centre for the industry” – said Morawiecki. Foreign investors choose Poland due to attractive labour costs, a substantial pool of skilled professionals and good location – in the heart of the European continent.
