Annual Deposit Interest Rates Adjust Downward, New Leaders Emerge at 6.50% and 6.20%

In a recent shift in the financial landscape, annual deposit interest rates have seen a notable decrease from 7.50% to a maximum of 6.50%.
Despite this change, the leader in this competitive market remains unchanged, with Volkswagen Bank GmbH Branch in Poland offering a lucrative deposit product known as Lokata Plus. This impressive interest rate is applicable to deposits starting from PLN 100,000, offering a secure and rewarding option for savers.
Taking the second spot on the podium is also Lokata Plus, this time from Toyota Bank, boasting a competitive interest rate of 6.20%. Similar to Volkswagen Bank, Toyota Bank’s offering is accessible to account holders and accepts deposits ranging from PLN 2,000 to PLN 40,000, catering to a broader spectrum of savers.
Notably, four financial institutions have emerged as strong contenders, all offering a respectable 6% interest rate on annual deposits:
- Bank Nowy (NOWYdepozyt 12M Guaranteed): This exclusive offer is designed for new customers opening a deposit account, with a maximum deposit limit of PLN 100,000.
- BFF Banking Group (Lokata Facto): Catering to deposit account holders, BFF Banking Group provides an attractive interest rate and accommodates substantial deposits of up to PLN 12,000,000.
- Inbank (Standard Deposit): Inbank’s offering is straightforward and accessible to all, allowing deposits of up to PLN 50,000 without any additional conditions.
- PKO BP (Deposit for New Funds): PKO BP’s offer is tailored for customers depositing new funds, with a minimum deposit requirement of PLN 1,000. Notably, their interest rate exceeds 5%.
While the competitive market landscape has adjusted to lower interest rates, two other banks, ING Bank Śląski and BOŚ Bank, continue to provide attractive options. ING Bank Śląski offers the Term Deposit Plus with an interest rate of 5.50%, while BOŚ Bank’s Lokata Promocyjna comes with a 5.25% interest rate.
Santander Consumer Bank also presents a viable option with its Lokacie Online na Nowe Młodych, featuring a 5% interest rate.
The banking sector’s shift in interest rates emphasizes the importance of carefully considering deposit options to maximize returns on savings. Whether customers seek higher interest rates or flexibility in deposit amounts, these options cater to a range of financial preferences. As the financial landscape continues to evolve, staying informed about the latest offerings and rates is crucial for making sound investment decisions.
Implications for Banking and Business
Developments in the Polish banking sector affect businesses operating in the country in several ways. Access to corporate banking services, credit availability, deposit rates, and payment infrastructure are all critical factors for companies — whether established Polish firms or foreign-owned entities entering the market.
For foreign entrepreneurs setting up operations in Poland, choosing the right banking partner is a strategic decision. Major Polish banks including mBank, ING Bank Śląski, Bank Millennium, PKO BP, and Santander Poland offer varying levels of service for international clients, including English-language online banking, multicurrency accounts, and dedicated relationship managers for corporate clients.
The Polish banking market is well-regulated by the KNF (Financial Supervision Authority) and participates in the EU deposit guarantee scheme (BFG — Bank Guarantee Fund), providing deposit protection up to EUR 100,000 per depositor per institution. This regulatory framework provides stability and confidence for businesses maintaining corporate funds in Polish banks.
