Poland Authorities on Economic and Financial Sanctions Towards Russia

The first phase of financial sanctions must be huge, otherwise, it is hard to expect Russia to withdraw, stressed Jarosław Kaczyński. According to the PiS chairman, the sanctions should also apply to Vladimir Putin and the Russian oligarchs.
During the press conference following the government meeting on Tuesday, PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński was asked about the sanctions that should be imposed on Russia in connection with the aggression against Ukraine.
The Importance of Financial Sanctions Against Russia:
According to him, the sanctions should be Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 as well as other financial sanctions: turning off the billing system and range of personal sanctions and it should also include Putin himself. Also, the first phase of sanctions must be massive”. He added that they’d do everything possible to limit the trade contacts, of course in such a way that it does not cause any sudden changes in Poland. As he emphasized, “our long-term interest is that Russia should be stopped.”
The PiS president also referred to Germany’s decision regarding Nord Stream 2. On Tuesday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz informed that due to the escalating Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the German government is suspending the approval process of the Russian-German Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline until further notice.
Western countries announced that they would impose financial sanctions on Russia. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called for the convening of the European Council. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that considering Russia’s actions towards Ukraine, ” Nord Stream 2 certification cannot be continued”.
